Unveiling Earth's Treasures: Formations, Rock Pressure, and Fluid Traps

Discover the geological formations that house these precious resources. Understand the pressures that rock layers exert on drilling operations and how fluid traps play a pivotal role in extracting oil and gas.

The Foundation: Fundamentals of Petroleum and Basic Geology

Get a solid grasp of the fundamentals of petroleum and the basics of geology. We'll unravel the secrets beneath the Earth's surface and explore the science of fossil fuels.

Lost Time: Causes and Global Statistics

Delve into the major causes of lost time in oil and gas drilling. We'll examine global statistics that shed light on the challenges the industry faces and how they impact operations.

Stuck Pipe: Causes and Mechanisms

Stuck pipes can be a significant setback. Understand the various causes and mechanisms behind this issue and how to prevent them.

Rock Mechanics and Drilling Fluid Properties

Explore the world of rock mechanics, including stratigraphic columns, and the properties of drilling fluids. These are crucial aspects of drilling that every professional must understand.

Identifying Sticking Mechanisms and "First Actions" Exercise

Learn to identify sticking mechanisms and engage in a "First Actions" exercise. This hands-on approach will prepare you for real-world scenarios and problem-solving in the field.

Day 2: Drilling Jars and Hole Pack-Off / Bridging

Unleash the Power: Types of Drilling Jars and How They Work

Discover the various types of drilling jars and the science behind their operation. We'll also explore the calculation of jarring loads and reasons why jars may not work as expected.

Sealing the Gap: Hole Pack-Off / Bridging Mechanisms

Understand hole pack-off and bridging mechanisms, their causes, and guidelines for efficient operation. These mechanisms are vital for maintaining wellbore integrity.

Investigating Borehole Instability

Dive into the causes of borehole instability and how it can impact drilling operations. We'll discuss preventive measures to ensure smooth drilling processes.

The Well Speaks: Drilling Parameters Recording and Trend Analysis

Learn the art of recording drilling parameters and how trend analysis plays a crucial role in monitoring and optimising well performance.

Day 3: Wellbore Geometry and Differential Sticking

The Shape of Things: Wellbore Geometry and Its Causes

Explore the concept of wellbore geometry, including key seating, ledges, and under-gauge holes. Understanding these factors is essential for efficient drilling.

Battling Differential Sticking: Prevention and Force Calculation

Differential sticking can be a significant challenge. We'll look at preventive measures and the calculation of forces involved.

Economics of Fishing: Time Value of Money and Probability Models

Uncover the economic aspects of fishing in the drilling industry. We'll discuss the time value of money and probability models that play a pivotal role in decision-making.

Culmination of Learning and Teamwork

In this final section, we'll consolidate your learning and emphasize the importance of teamwork in oil and gas drilling.
